Master's of Social Work Intern

University of Michigan - Ann Arbor

Hello, I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m pursuing my Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice. I believe every individual is an expert in their own life. I aim to create a stigma-free, inclusive and safe space for every client while including empathy, empowerment and cultural competency in my therapeutic style.

Previously, I worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician as well as a Physical Therapy Technician which made me fall in love with helping others. I was an intern at the Counseling and Psychological Services during my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and this showed me how much I wanted to become a therapist in a clinical setting.

Currently, I’m most educated in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but learning new therapeutic interventions to better assist my future clients is very important to me. Whether you’re experiencing mental health concerns or life challenges I would love to help you on your journey. I look forward to meeting you.

Giselle Strader

M.A. Clinicial Mental Health Counseling Intern - Central Michigan University

My name is Giselle and I am working to earn my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Central Michigan University. I believe that our past experiences and our family life greatly shape who we are. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe and seen, and where you are free to be who you are.  Sometimes, we’re faced with challenges that arise from those past experiences and we haven’t been given the tools to work through them. My focus is on building a therapeutic relationship that will give you that freedom to understand yourself and to live meaningfully.

I am particularly drawn to the Adlerian approach and, more recently, to parts work. At the same time, I’m continuously strengthening my understanding of various theoretical frameworks to better support the diverse needs of my future clients. I am committed to creating an environment where you feel safe, heard, and respected. I am also passionate in making sure that I am culturally sensitive so that I can support you in the best way possible throughout this journey.

It can be challenging to reach out, and it takes strength in doing so! Whether you are going through a difficult life transition or have been struggling with mental health for a while, I look forward to supporting you in your healing journey.

Nicole "Nikki" McGilpin

M.A. Clinicial Mental Health Counseling Intern - Central Michigan University

Hello! My name is Nikki, I am a graduate student with Central Michigan University pursuing my MA in Mental Health and School Counseling. I bring a warm, genuine, and caring presence to my work, and I’ve always felt most fulfilled when helping and uplifting others. While I am early in my counseling journey, I am deeply committed to growing as a clinician and supporting those I work with through empathy and respect. My desire is to work with children, teens, and adults. My goal is to empower people in finding insight into what is troubling them. I'd like to help individuals struggling with grief, depression, anxiety, stress, peer relationships, self-esteem, bullying, and relationships.

My favorite theoretical approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), which reflect my belief in the power of resilience, self-awareness, and client strengths in the healing process. I applaud your courage in seeking out a counselor and I would be honored to help you navigate your struggles.
